P.I.A.F. proudly announces the release of The Little Prince in Jerriais, an Anglo-Norman language. This publication is the second of fifteen planned translations into vernacular languages. It was made possible thanks to the Alliance Française of Jersey, the Office of Jerriais, and the generous support of the Jean-Marc Probst Foundation for The Little Prince.
On December 8, 2023, the Société Jersiaise hosted the official launch in its members’ hall. Anna Peluso-Allen, director of the Alliance Française of Jersey, expressed her excitement for the project.
She emphasized the profound impact of The Little Prince, a book she discovered as a teenager, which explores human complexity through various levels of interpretation. According to her, this initiative perfectly aligns with the Alliance’s mission to celebrate the island’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
Anna Peluso-Allen thanked the Jean-Marc Probst Foundation and P.I.A.F. Solutions for their support and coordination, and praised Geraint Jennings’ excellent work on the translation and Blue Ormer’s publishing efforts.
During the event, attendees discussed the role of The Little Prince as a global symbol of cultural and linguistic diversity. This project also strengthens the love of books and reading.
To celebrate the release, the Alliance Française and the Office of Jerriais will organize thematic workshops starting in January 2024. These activities will offer Jersey residents a unique opportunity to rediscover this work from a new perspective while highlighting the richness of the Jèrriais language.
Meanwhile, P.I.A.F. continues its call for projects as part of its The Little Prince at the Bedside of the World’s Languages program.
