YMA LA GRANDE, in search of the Andean Nightingale
The international cultural project “YMA LA GRANDE, in search of the Andean nightingale” pays contemporary tribute to Yma Sumac, the great Peruvian diva, as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of her birth.
This unique cultural and artistic project involves 15 musical artists working with Peruvian coloratura soprano Sylvia Falcón,
a diva with 4 octaves, worthy heir to the Andean nightingale.
The project included a residency and tour in France in August 2022, followed by a tour and artistic residency in Peru in November 2022, with a national tribute concert at the Gran Teatro Nacional with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture in front of 1,500 people.
Concerts and a residency were also held in Trujillo, Lima and Cajamarca.
The YMA LA GRANDE project is now available in a variety of formats: from musical conversation to large-scale performances on the biggest stages, including an original duo with organ and two trio formats: the Puku Puku trio for a fusion with European Celtic music and the Sylvia Falcon Trio for a return to the sources of the excellence and diversity of Peruvian music and the unparalleled vocal virtuosity of the ornate lyrical singing invented by Yma Sumac, the Andean coloratura.
